A collection of five contemporary houses designed for a hillside site overlooking Knysna and its lagoon.

Bayview is a compact residential development of five detached and semi-detached homes, conceived to take advantage of the site's elevated position and expansive views across Knysna. The two- and three-bedroom houses are arranged across the sloping site to balance outlook, privacy and a strong relationship with the landscaped spaces between them.

The architecture draws on the familiar steep roofs and vertical proportions of Knysna's traditional residential character, reinterpreted with clean contemporary detailing and a subtle coastal influence. Living spaces are positioned to maximise natural light and views, opening onto balconies and terraces that extend the houses towards the surrounding landscape.

Careful consideration of orientation, level changes and the relationship between neighbouring houses allowed a relatively dense development to retain the individuality and privacy of separate homes. Indigenous and deciduous planting was incorporated into the landscape strategy to soften the development and establish distinct outdoor spaces.
